Uses / indications
- Amlodipine 5 mg Tablet — Indications
- Amlodipine 5 mg is a calcium-channel blocker primarily indicated for:
- - Hypertension (high blood pressure) — used alone or with other antihypertensive medicines.
- - Chronic stable angina — helps prevent episodes of chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart.
- - Vasospastic (Prinzmetal) angina — helps prevent coronary artery spasm–related chest pain.
- Usual adult starting dose for hypertension: 5 mg once daily, although dosing should be individualized by a doctor. Maximum commonly recommended dose is 10 mg once daily.
- Important: Amlodipine controls blood pressure and helps prevent angina; it is not used to immediately relieve an acute episode of chest pain.
